Emergency Care Services
Knowing when to seek emergency care isn’t easy. We recommend reaching out to us if you have any reason to think your pet may have a serious problem. There are also certain situations and symptoms that always warrant an emergency visit, including:
Seizures or convulsions
Eye injuries or sudden loss of vision
Difficulty breathing or respiratory distress
Ingestion of toxic substances, such as rat poison, chocolate, or human medications
Inability to urinate or defecate or straining to do so
Suspected heart attack or another cardiac emergency
Unresponsiveness or lethargy
Collapse or sudden loss of consciousness
Suspected broken bones, dislocated joints, or severe lameness
Signs of shock, such as pale gums, rapid heartbeat, and weak pulse
Allergic reactions, such as swelling of the face or difficulty breathing
Suspected heatstroke or hyperthermia
Severe or prolonged pain
Excessive bleeding or bleeding that doesn't stop within 5 minutes
Difficulty giving birth, prolonged labor, or the presence of a stuck puppy or kitten
Traumatic injuries, such as being hit by a car or attacked by another animal
Profuse vomiting or diarrhea, especially if blood is present or if it is accompanied by abdominal pain
